Guest Speakers
John Kenyon - Austroads
John introduced a national program currently in development that aims to achieve true harmonisation of driver licensing across Australia.
He shared forward-thinking concepts and the potential benefits of a consistent licensing pathway nationwide. John also challenged traditional thinking around tenure and driver progression, actively seeking feedback from attendees to take back to his team.
Scott Knowles – NHVR
Drawing on his experience as a roadside compliance officer, Scott delivered a compelling session on regulatory requirements and vehicle standards.
Attendees gained a clear understanding of their responsibilities under Chain of Responsibility (CoR), Fatigue Management, and other critical legal frameworks.
Jonathon Graham - Active Fleet
Jonathon highlighted the increasing role of technology in the road transport sector, presenting tools like remote FCA uploads, live-streaming, and incident protection systems. Graphic case studies showcased how video evidence has played a vital role in protecting drivers — reinforcing the value of adopting tech in daily operations.
Meagan Felton – Transport for NSW
Meagan provided an update on the HVCBA scheme, sharing current improvements and inviting industry feedback to help shape its future. She also presented concerning non-compliance statistics, reinforcing the importance of education — an area the ADTA is committed to supporting through future initiatives.
Alexander Petersen – Transport for NSW
Alex, one of the frontline compliance officers, offered real-world insights from recent audit findings. These included both administrative oversights and serious breaches, such as instructors operating without valid licences. His presentation underscored the importance of compliance and the role it plays in maintaining industry integrity. These findings will help shape ADTA's future education resources.

Why Professional Development Matters
In the heavy vehicle industry, staying up to date isn’t just about skill—it's about safety, efficiency, and compliance.
Ongoing professional development (PD) helps drivers sharpen their knowledge, improve on-road performance, and stay ahead of industry changes. For those in NSW, PD is a legal requirement set by Transport for NSW, ensuring drivers maintain high standards and meet regulatory obligations.
Whether it's understanding new road laws, refining driving techniques, or improving business operations, investing in PD keeps you competitive, compliant, and on the road with confidence.
